Now that you’ve done your homework and it’s time for you to undergo the surgery that you’ve waited for, that is a breast reduction procedure, you now need to find a doctor who is qualified to do this operation.
Safety and predictable results are the most important aspects of any plastic surgery. The next few simple points should help you to find a doctor who is qualified and has the skill, experience and judgment to do a proper reduction mammoplasty or breast reduction procedure.
1. Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. The doctor needs to be Board Certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery. There are absolutely no substitutes whatsoever. These doctors have had years of extensive training in both general surgery as well as plastic and reconstructive surgery and have the know-how to create a normal shape breast and reducing the breast safely under a reasonable period of time without excessive blood loss.
The doctor should have years of experience doing breast reduction surgeries. The technique of choice is very important as well. Dr. Linder performs the inferior pedicle Wise-pattern or the anchor scar technique because it yields predictable results with good blood supply to the nipple areolar complex and a nice shape to the breast once healing and swelling has occurred.
2. Board Certified Anesthesiologist. This is in all aspects of plastic surgery. The doctor who puts you to sleep needs to an anesthesiologist who is Board Certified with the American Board Anesthesia, and will be able to take care of you under general anesthesia during your reduction mammoplasty procedure.
3. The Ambulatory Center needs to be certified. Medicare and State Licensed Brighton Surgical Center, the Ambulatory Surgery Center where Dr. Linder performs his surgeries, is the safest in Beverly Hills.
4. Photographs. Patients should look at many photographs on the internet as well as in the doctor’s albums, of before and after pictures of breast reduction surgeries. (oblique, lateral and frontal views)
5. Scarring. Scarring is an unpredictable process in plastic surgery. The patients should look at the scars of many different surgeries that the doctor has performed on reduction mammoplasties to make sure that she is accepting of the tradeoff of scars for a smaller and lifted breast.
6. Aftercare Management. Patients should have drainage tubes usually for larger reductions 24 hours. Should be maintained on antibiotics as well as pain medication and should be seen the next day postoperatively.
