Am I a candidate for breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgery, more technically termed “reduction mammaplasty,” is a breast surgery procedure in which the breasts are reduced to look and feel lighter, firmer, and smaller. Women who may be considering this procedure may be ideal candidates if they are experiencing one or more of the following conditions: 

• Back, neck, and/or shoulder pain
• Heavy breasts
• Overly large, sagging breasts
• Irritation beneath the breasts

By creating incisions that will be placed around the areolas (“circular pattern”), around the areolas and down the breast creases (“keyhole incision”), or around the areolas, down the breast creases, and along the breast creases (“anchor-shaped incision”), excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue is removed.

By pulling the skin together, new, smaller, tighter breasts will be formed, giving the patient a more balanced appearance. Placed in a medical bandage after the procedure, the patient will typically have a two week recovery period, but will be able to see a noticeable difference immediately.
